This is a review of the Ray-Ban RB 2140 Original Wayfarer sunglasses. The most iconic frames ever conjured up by man, they were first introduced back in 1956 and have been worn by many presidents and famous movie stars ever since.
The popularity of the sunglasses simply grew year after year and now it's considered the most popular sunglasses in history.
Today we'll be reviewing the RB 2140's and seeing what all this fuss is about. First we'll look at the Pros of these frames and then the Cons, but I can already tell you, there isn't much wrong with these frames.
The awesome thing about the RB 2140's is the endless color options, it's actually pretty insane the options you have.
There are tons to choose from, at any given time, there are usually between 40-60 different colors available and anytime a color is fazed out of the collection, more colors simply takes it's place.
The Ray-Ban RB 2140 is available in 3 different sizes. Sunglass sizes are determined by the lens width and is measured in millimeters, so if it's a 47mm size, that is the size of just one lens. So here are the sizes.
The 47mm size is the smallest size available. This isn't ment for most adults because this size is way too small for most adults. But this'll be an option if you have a small or narrow face shape.
The 50mm size is like a medium. This fits most adults and is the most popular size.
The 54mm size is the largest size available. This will be too big for most people, but is a great option for people with rounder or larger face shapes.
Wayfarers are made of acetate, so even though it's a thick looking frame, it's actually still very lightweight.
Also being acetate, it can be adjusted to better fit your face. Just ask your optometrist about having them adjusted.
Also available in leather or denim. But this would be part of there special editions.
The Wayfarers can accommodate most prescriptions, so you are able to put your prescription in them, so no need to sacrifice your vision for fashionable looks.
Also all RB 2140's come with 100% UV protection which protects you from the suns harmful ultra-violet light. Choose polarized lenses for even more protection from the suns glare.
We would rate the build quality of the Wayfarer as excellent. They are manufactured with quality in mind, so the end product is a work of art. So you get what you pay for, most Wayfarers cost around $120 and you won't mind shelling out $120 to get these, you surely get your moneys worth.
Not much has changed with the Original Wayfarers ever since it came out in 1956, even the hinge design hasn't changed in over 70 years! Why change a good thing right?
I bet you the Wayfarers will still be around in 100 years, it's a classic that'll never go out of style.
The RB 2140 has glass lenses, just the issue with glass lenses is that it's less durable than other materials like plastic or poly-carbonate which are way more durable than glass.
But if your lenses do end up getting cracked, we do offer replacement lenses for the RB 2140. Even if your frames are under warranty, usually cracked lenses aren't covered under the warranty as it's not really a defect, more of human error.
The Original Wayfarer is not really suitable for people with chubbier cheeks, because of the way the front is angled, people with chubbier cheeks it'll constantly hit them, if you smile or move your cheeks in any way, so it's not really comfortable. If that is the case, you should try out the RB 2132 New Wayfarer.
Maybe 1 in every 50 will make a squeaking noise, this isn't really a defect, just annoying. This ends up happening because when the glass lenses are being installed into the frame, the acetate frames are heated up so that the glass lenses can be installed easier without cracking them, but after the lenses have been installed, when the frames cool down, it may not contract enough, so ends up having a small space in-between the lenses and the frame, which causes that annoying squeak.
But this is easily fixable, all you need is a hairdryer and a tall glass of cold water. Simply heat up the front of frames, don't over do it though, usually a hairdryer on high heat about 30 seconds to a minute should do the trick, once it's heated up, drop your sunglasses into the glass of cold water, wait a minute and the squeaking noise should be gone. if not, repeat the process and maybe try heating it up a little more.
Overall the RB 2140's are fantastic. There are way more good things than there is bad, which you can't say with many things. If you want to get these iconic style, head on over here & add one to your shopping cart.
If you enjoy spending long periodsof time outdoors or simply another day off to work, you'll need yourself some shades to protect your eyes from the sunlight. Because long exposure to the suns harmful Ultra-Violet rays can actually cause short & long term damage to your vision and also squinting can cause unnecessary headaches. Seeing is a good thing.
We get asked this question quite often and that is if the RB 3025 in color 001 Arista Gold 62mm size the same as the RB 3026 in color L2846 Arista Gold 62mm? Or simply if there is any difference between the RB 3025 & RB 3026?
Ray-Ban was owned by Bausch & Lomb for many decades, but back in 1999, an Italian company called the Luxottica Group bought the rights to Ray-Ban. Since then, Ray-Ban has become even more widespread, now they are the worlds most recognized name brand of eyewear.
If you already own a pair of glasses and they fit you well, you could check the ones you have to see a rough idea of the size you are needing or if you saw something in a store you liked, just write down the size if it fit you well.
Usually, the size is written in 3 consecutive numbers, the first 2 numbers are 2 digits and the last a 3 digit number, this is usually on the inside of the temples, like this 58-16-145
All measurements are in millimeters. It only has the numbers on the frames, but it'll be like this 58mm-16mm-145mm
The first number is always the eye size (width of one lens) so the lens size would be 58mm
The second is the bridge (nose part) width, so the bridge would be 16mm
The third is the temple length, this is the total length if it were straighten out, as all glasses are bent near the end to wrap around your ear. So the temple length is 145mm
